What else does BEST do?
BEST is hard to put in a few words. That's because so many different things happen within BEST., not just BEST Courses. So, here's a small, and by far not complete list of those:
Local Events
Info Evenings, Promotional Events
What is the best and cheapest course good for, if there's nobody attending it? so, an integral part of BEST is to promote itself to you.
Engineering Competitions
Growing up doesn't mean to stop playing! BEST organises Competitions for Engineers, where you can test your creativity, problem solving skills, and your team spirit! Construct an astonishing device for a given task, with only a handfull of materials, or find an innovative solution for a company's pressing problem!
Company visits and presentations
Find your future employer! There's a lot of companies you never heard about, and there's a lot of companies that never heard about you! BEST organizes visits and presentations, so you can get to know each other personally!
Motivation Weekends
One especially nice thing are Motivation Weekends. Those are for motivating ourselves to our future challenges ahead, and to have a lot of fun together over a weekend. Those events are usually very casual, so don't be afraid and come with us!
Internal Events
Trainings
BEST also is a social-skills-powerhouse cramming out highly trained students with skills they can not get in their regular study. There's a plethora of so-called "Trainshop" Courses on a lot of topics, and a Train-the-Trainer System as the backbone of our professionality. All those trainings are all voluntary, still everybody wants to go there.
General Assembly, Regional Meetings, Comittees and Workshops
These events provide the structure of the democratic self governence within BEST. Ever tried to speak in front of 200 people deciding the rules for a few thousand BEST members? And try to convince them to accept your proposed changes? There are also a few special Interest Groups called "Comittees", that care about specific tasks, like the "External Events Comittee" (doing quality assurance), or the "Information Technology Comittee" (ever wondered who programmed the Course Application System? It's them).
Jamborees, Cultural Exchanges, Motivation Weekends
Those are the events reserved for maximum fun! Jamborees are like multi-day parties and can get as big as 300 people. With "Cultural exchanges", two or three BEST groups visit each other and have intense cultural experiences together. Motivation Weekends of other BEST Groups are also a very popular excuse to just drop by and have a party!
Carreer Support
BEST also helps students finding their perfect job!. BEST Groups are actively engaging with companies looking for the students of Technology with above-average skills, connecting them via the BEST Career Center (BCC), local Job Fairs and specially organised Company presentations and visits.
Other Projects, Involvements
EU higher education
BEST also is involved in the regulatory future of higher education in Europe. Within so-called Thematic Networks, we provide first-order feedback of student opinions to Brussel's decision makers.
Universities
BEST also tries to bring Universities and foreign students closer to each other, via its University Project.
Partner Organisations
We're not alone, BEST has two partner organisations, CFES (Canadian Federation of Engineering Students) and bonding (a german student organisation). We also share courses, experiences, ideas, and even do some projects together.
